Yoga works for Pregnancy & Childbirth
New session starts in September 2009. Please email for details.
Classes are also available on a private individual or private group basis.
A bump-to-birth package, combining a private prenatal yoga/yoga for childbirth session and reflexology, is also available.
Pregnancy is a time of great transformations and challenges in a woman's physical condition, emotional state, and lifestyle. Practicing yoga is highly beneficial for confronting these changes with a sense of calm, while physically and mentally preparing for the birth process and beyond.
In this class, we use gentle postures, movement, breathing exercises, visualizations, and guided relaxation that help build physical and mental awareness, balance the body and mind, and ease the discomforts of the changing body. Regardless of your birth plan, this class gives you the opportunity to ‘find your centre’ during a time of radical change.
No prior experience of yoga is necessary and women may begin practice from the second trimester.
Preparing for Childbirth with Yoga
For mums-to-be & their birth partners
The end of pregnancy can be a time of great anticipation, as well as anxiety and fear for both parents-to-be. Every mother worries about the outcome of the impending birth, while birth partners may wonder how they will cope. You may have done a lot of reading about pregnancy and childbirth, attended antenatal classes, and even toured the hospital, but this is an opportunity to rehearse different labour scenarios and explore various coping strategies.
In this workshop we will:
- explore how elements of yoga such as breathwork, postures, centering and mindful relaxation can help you prepare for childbirth;
- practice various movements and positions that may help to ease the discomfort of contractions, speed up or slow down labour and help you to have a greater sense of empowerment, whatever the setting or situation; and
- allow partners to explore their roles and expectations, both during and after birth. They will develop awareness of the birthing process, and learn hands-on, practical ways to communicate effectively, help their partners with supported postures and massage for pain relief through the different stages of labour.
A bespoke session is held in the convenience of your own home, at a time convenient for you, at least 2 weeks prior to your estimated birth date. To avoid disappointment it is advisable to book as early as possible. Please email for details.
